OFFICIAL AEW WORLD TITLE MATCH WEIGH-INS
AEW World Champion Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley are on a collision course this Saturday night at “Revolution” for a World Title Match. It has been building to a fever pitch for weeks, and fans have witnessed Jericho offer Moxley everything under the sun to join The Inner Circle, and in the aftermath of Mox's refusal, watched Jericho tab Jon in the eye with a spike and forcing him to compete with an eye patch for the last several weeks.
For his part, Jon smashed a bottle of the Bubbly across the skull of Le Champion, went eye for an eye with Santana, has fought against the hired gun known as Jeff Cobb, and taken the fight to the full Inner Circle regardless of the odds against him. Moxley has shown no fear when it comes to Jericho and his allies, and now we have reached the final step before that title opportunity, but it has all the ingredients to be a powder keg. The last time Jericho sat down for something that required some decorum prior to a title match was the contract signing for “Full Gear” versus Cody, and during those proceedings Dustin Rhodes was attacked by The Inner Circle and had his arm broken to send a message to Cody.
Now Moxley may not have a brother, a relative, basically any person he cares about inside AEW for Le Champion to come after, but that doesn't mean Jericho won't look for anyway he can to get a leg up before the World Title match this Saturday night. How that may come is anyone's guess but Jon Moxley best be prepared for any eventuality; there is no way Jericho is going to head to Chicago without one last stab at ending this championship challenge before the bell even rings.
30 MINUTE IRON MAN MATCH
(#4) Kenny Omega vs. (#3) PAC
An injury to Jon Moxley shuffled things up just prior to “All Out”, and fans saw the scheduled Omega vs. Moxley match changed into a bout between Kenny and the debuting PAC. Now PAC was set for that back at “Double or Nothing”, but it did not come to pass, and instead he stepped into an AEW ring for the first time on August 31st. And not only did he take up the match on short notice, PAC shocked the world when he defeated Kenny via referee stoppage. It was a resounding debut for The Bastard, but few would have guessed we'd still be feeling the repercussions of that defeat six months later.
See Kenny got his first chance at redemption on “Dynamite” when he and Adam Page teamed up for the very first time to take on PAC and Moxley in a tag match. The result would see Omega and Page get the “W” after Moxley left his partner out to dry, giving PAC his first loss in AEW, and enraging The Bastard.
Several weeks later on “Dynamite”, PAC and Omega would finally have their rematch and it would be Kenny who snatched the win on this occasion, albeit in a less decisive fashion than PAC's victory. This stalemate between the two men sent PAC into a violent spiral as he pursued a decisive rubber match with Omega, a spiral that saw Michael Nakazawa end up on the receiving end several times, as well as PAC lean into Nyla Rose to decimate another friend of Omega's in Riho.
So it is now, in Kansas City, on the eve of his third World Tag Title defense at “Revolution”, that Kenny Omega will finally face off with PAC in this third contest. And it is not just any battle, it will be contested under Iron Man rules for 30 minutes, and what this means, is that the individual with the most falls at the end of time limit will be declared the winner. Pinfalls, submissions, disqualifications, count outs, all of the traditional ways a match can end are all the ways in which a competitor can earn a fall. Strategy becomes an integral part of how to approach these matches, they can be as cerebral as they are physical, and it will certainly drain the reserves of both individuals.
In other words, Kenny and PAC are going to feel this, which makes a person question if accepting this challenge so close to “Revolution” and a World Tag Team Title defense is the smartest move on Kenny's part. PAC is going to do everything he can to decimate an Omega who is already hurting (as he elaborated on in this week's “Being The Elite” (Watch Here) and that may leave Kenny ripe for the picking by the Young Bucks just three days later.
TAG TEAM ACTION
The Butcher & The Blade (w/ The Bunny) vs. The Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent w/ Orange Cassidy)
As you can see in the clip above, during the Battle Royale last week to crown the next challengers for the World Tag Team Titles, things got a little...rough...between The Bunny and Orange Cassidy. But that was not the only instance in which the presence of The Freshly Squeezed One was a factor; earlier on in the chaos, as Trent was on the verge of being eliminated by The Blade, the timely emergence of Orange saved Trent from elimination. One short OC shoulder ride to the ring steps for Trent, and The Best Friends remained in the mix for the time being.
To say that was a frustrating moment for The Blade would be an understatement, but clearly The Bunny vented that out on behalf of her team.
Now these four men, with their respective seconds, will meet in tag team competition this Wednesday night in Kansas City! Both teams are looking to step up, solidify themselves as contenders to whomever holds the Tag Team Titles post-”Revolution”, as well as mix it up after the events of last week's tag team Battle Royale. Who will be the victor, and will The Bunny & Orange Cassidy have a role to play? Tune in Wednesday to find out!
SIX MAN TAG MATCH
The Inner Circle (Sammy Guevara, Santana, & Ortiz) vs. Jurassic Express (Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, & Marko Stunt)
Sammy says he's not dead, but we shall see what kind of condition he is in this Wednesday night when The Inner Circle arrives in KC for this Six Man tag because there is no way Guevara's not still feeling that one. At least he has Santana and Ortiz to support him against a Jurassic Express trio looking to give their opponents a bit of comeuppance after the Battle Royale. Suffice to say that Sammy G was more than a little helpful when it came to eliminating Jungle Boy shortly before the combined might of four men dumped Luchasaurus out of the running for a tag title shot.
It's definitely not the first run-in the JurEx has had with members of The Inner Circle, most notably Jungle Boy and Chris Jericho's Ten-Minute Challenge as well as the 6-Man tag on the Jericho Cruise episode of “Dynamite”, but the Express would love to make it the last. Putting a big “L” in the record books as The Inner Circle heads towards one of its biggest nights ever at “Revolution”, now that would be a momentous occasion for Lucha, Jungle, and Marko before AEW makes the trip to Chicago for our next pay-per-view offering!
THE LAST STOP...
Cody survived the 10 lashes.
He survived, nay, thrived inside the Steel Cage with Wardlow, ascending to the very top and drilling Mr. Mayhem with a picturesque moonsault...without looking over his shoulder once. Not once...
Now Cody has one last event, one more night to get through in order to make sure the match at “Revolution” with Maxwell Jacob Friedman is set in stone. This Wednesday night in Kansas City is THE final day Cody could break the agreements he made in order to get to this one-on-one match with his former protege. He just has to refrain from touching MJF prior to Saturday night. That's it, just restrain himself from punching Max in his arrogant, obnoxious face and thus sealing the deal for “Revolution”. Cody just has to lock down those desires to smash MJF's head with a chair long enough to get to Chicago, just bottle up all that anger, frustration, and disappointment that Max has brought out in “The American Nightmare” and let it explode in The Windy City. Sounds so simple, but maybe you've never actually met MJF and experienced just how hard that is...
On the other side of the coin, now that Max has seen that he cannot break Cody with physical pain, Wednesday night in Kansas City will be his final opportunity to push Cody to that breaking point mentally. All it would take is getting Cody to throw a punch, a slap, one kick, any kind of physicality and this fight would dissipate into nothingness mere days before it should have become reality. Is MJF at the point inside his own head where he wants this fight with Cody to vanish? Or is he confident that, between the lashes and the Cage, that Cody has been physically worn down enough to be easy pickings for the holder of the Dynamite Diamond Ring? We shall see what this last stop on the “Road To Revolution” tour has for these two former friends this Wednesday night...
