Tonight’s episode of AEW DYNAMITE—and the final outing before this Saturday’s REVOLUTION pay-per-view—was broadcast live on TNT from the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena, in Kansas City, MO!
Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Jim Ross were the broadcast team for the event. Taz joined them later during the program.
Our opening contest tonight was the 30 Minute Iron Man Match –Kenny Omega vs. “the Bastard” PAC!
This was the rubber match in a three match series, and what a way to kick off DYNAMITE!
“The question is, is PAC here to win, or to hurt…or both?” asked Jim Ross.
Kenny Omega was walked down to the ring by his Elite friends—Nick and Matt Jackson, the Young Bucks. “Hangman” Adam Page was conspicuous by his absence.
PAC and Omega tied up with wristlocks to begin, with the timer set at 30:00. Two minutes into the match and they were trading hard chops. Omega went for the One Winged Angel, but PAC countered with an attempt at the Brutalizer submission. Omega escaped before too long.
Omega took a big chance early on and it paid off as he walloped PAC with a tope con hiro! He followed up with a Kotaro Crusher for a two count. Five minutes in and Omega used a dragon suplex on PAC, but PAC rolled out of the ring, smartly avoiding a pinning attempt. Omega chased PAC to the outside, but PAC had him scouted and planted Omega with a DDT!
PAC met Omega on the top rope and drilled Omega on the back of his head with an avalanche brainbuster eight minutes into the bout! After a cutter, PAC covered Omega but came up short. So far there had been no successful pin falls. The Young Bucks cheered on Omega from ringside.
Omega and PAC were exchanging haymakers with one another. “Neither guy is gonna quit, you can tell that,” said Jim Ross. PAC used a pump kick on Omega and then a waist lock into a snap German suplex. Kenny Omega connected with two knees to PAC and then the Tiger Driver ’98 but PAC kicked out! Omega hoisted PAC up and bridged back with a suplex, and PAC escaped at 2.99!
The AEW fans were on their feet chanting “This is awesome! This is awesome! This is awesome!”
Omega used a V-Trigger to the back of PAC’s head and then climbed to the top rope with PAC on his shoulders. PAC reversed it and pancaked Omega down to the mat. Omega kicked out at two! PAC ran to the outside and assaulted Omega with a steel chair to the head. PAC was disqualified, so Omega got the first point in the match.
There was a thirty-second interval in between, and the Bucks gave Omega some bottled water and words of encouragement. PAC capitalized on the earlier cheap shots with the chair, and used the Black Arrow on Omega for a three count! Now both competitors were tied with a point each in their favor!
With ten minutes remaining, PAC and Omega battled on the ring apron. PAC suplexed Omega with a sickening thud to the outside of the ring! Ref Paul Turner told AEW medical support Doc Sampson to watch Omega’s leg.
PAC set up a table while the referee himself was down from an errant hit. PAC hit an insane shooting star press from the top of the turnbuckles down to Omega, crashing onto Omega through the table. The ref counted both men, but PAC was back in first. Omega somehow managed to slide back in the ring, just barely breaking the ref’s count! PAC went back to the top for another Black Arrow, but Omega raised his knees, knocking the wind out of his opponent. Omega used two V-triggers and then dropped PAC on the back of his neck. PAC kicked out before the pin fall! Omega connected with a third V-trigger and went for the One-Winged Angel but PAC countered with the Brutalizer with three minutes counting down on the clock!
“Omega is in deep, deep water right here,” said Excalibur.
“This is an amazing pro wrestling contest here on DYNAMITE,” added Jim Ross.
Omega got his foot on the ropes and the ref broke PAC’s hold. PAC stood up to his feet and went right back to the Brutalizer with a minute and twenty seconds on the clock!
Thirty seconds remained and Omega tried digging his fingers into PAC’s face, anything to escape PAC’s clutches. PAC was wrenching the Brutalizer on Omega but Omega wouldn’t give-up. It was a stalemate! PAC was furious and took out his frustration on ref Paul Turner, striking him down with a fist and a forearm.
AEW announcer Justin Roberts was notified from the back that the match would continue under sudden death rules! Ref Aubrey Edwards ran down to the ring, replacing injured ref Paul Turner. Omega jumped to his feet and hit the ripcord V-trigger on PAC, and then another knee, but PAC popped out! Omega lifted PAC up for the One-Winged Angel and pinned PAC to win it 2-1 in overtime!
“All I can say is ‘wow.’ What an athletic event!” said Jim Ross.
Tony Schiavone came down to interview PAC on the ramp, but PAC insulted Schiavone. Orange Cassidy strolled out casually but PAC’s foul mood escalated and he struck down Orange Cassidy. AEW trainers ran out and pried PAC away from “Freshly Squeezed.”
Next was a Six Man Tag Match –The Inner Circle (Sammy Guevara, Santana & Ortiz) taking on Jurassic Express (Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, & Marko Stunt)!
Jungle Boy blasted Sammy with a shotgun dropkick! The action spilled to the outside. Unfortunately, the Inner Circle were the first back into the ring, and they isolated Marko Stunt, triple teaming him.
Sammy slapped Marko, but Marko finally got the tag to Luchasaurus, who wiped out Santana and Ortiz. Sammy slapped Luchasaurus in the back of the head, but Jungle Boy and Marko entered the fray for a trio of superkicks onto Sammy!
Jungle Boy floated over the top of Sammy G, but “the Spanish God” grabbed the loaded sock as ref Bryce Remsburg was distracted. Before Sammy could use the “mad ball” on Jungle Boy, Darby Allin intercepted it from ringside. Jungle Boy grabbed the distracted Sammy and rolled him up for the victory!
This was followed by the Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent, with Orange Cassidy) against The Butcher & The Blade (accompanied by the Bunny)!
The Butcher and the Blade singled out Trent, as Chuckie T. had been knocked to the ringside area. The Butcher dropped Trent onto the middle of the ropes across his abdomen.
Finally Chuckie T. got the hot tag, and the Best Friends hit Sole Food on the Blade! The momentum was short lived, however, as the Butcher and the Blade began double-teaming Chuck Taylor, utilizing quick tags to one another. The Butcher stomped Chuck Taylor in the corner. Chuckie tried to stand and was met with a shoulder block from the Butcher.
Trent was tagged in and used a swinging DDT onto the Blade. Trent tried for a pescado onto the outside, but was caught by the Blade. Trent speared Blade, knocking him to the concrete floor. Trent hooked up the Blade, who had been distracted by Orange Cassidy. The Best Friends used Strong Zero on the Blade for the victory!
Tony Schiavone came down to ringside and announced that at AEW REVOLUTION, “the Bastard” PAC will be going one on one against Orange Cassidy. “Freshly Squeezed” gave the semi-thumbs up!
The next match was a four way with “The Magical Girl” Yuka Sakazaki vs. Big Swole vs. Shanna vs. Hikaru Shida!
Shanna hit a deep arm drag on Shida. Swole rolled up Shida for a one count. Shanna hit a double hurracarana on Sole and Shanna! Sakazaki interrupted a three-way test of strength and paid the price for it, getting tossed to the outside. Shanna used a leaping elbow on Shida and knocked her out of the ring. Shanna rocked Big Swole with a forearm.
Sakazaki hit a low clothesline to Shanna, then applied tarantula leg scissors over the top rope to Shanna. Shida suplexed Shanna onto Sakazaki, hitting two birds with one stone. Swole came in with palm strikes and an effective head-butt to Shanna, and then a cutter for a two count! Shida took down Big Swole with a flying missile dropkick!
Shanna gave a diving stomp onto Sakazaki and Shida! Then Shanna went for Swole but Swole hit the ripcord onto her. Shida won the match with a running knee strike against Big Swole!
“A hell of a contest by all four ladies,” said Taz.
An interview filmed earlier in the day aired. Jim Ross talked to the Young Bucks and the AEW Tag Champions Kenny Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page.
“This is the last thing I could have imagined a year ago. These two being tag team champions…but I’m proud of them,” said Matt Jackson.
“Why haven’t you been tag team champions here in AEW?” asked Jim Ross.
As Nick Jackson was about to answer, Kenny Omega interrupted, “Place and time, Jim. It’s really just our chance to be the Young Bucks.”
“This was an accident?” asked “Hangman” Adam Page, who was drinking during the interview.
“When we get into the ring this Saturday, you’re going to see that we are the best tag team in the world, but at the end of the day, we’re going to shake hands, because we are the Elite,” said Matt Jackson.
Page was visibly uncomfortable in the chair, and Nick Jackson said, “You were nothing but a jobber and we brought you along and—“
“Hangman” Page yelled back, “The first chance you get and you want to take this championship away from me?!”
“This has gotten very personal,” said Jim Ross.
Next was the official weigh-in for this Saturday’s AEW World Championship Match. Le Champion Chris Jericho will be defending his title against Jon Moxley at AEW REVOLUTION!
The great Gary Michael Cappetta joined the broadcast as the master of ceremonies for the weigh-in!
Out to the ring first, from Cincinnati, Ohio, was the challenger, Jon Moxley!
“He’s full of attitude and he’s ready for this Saturday night,” said Jim Ross.
“An unpredictable man for sure,” said Taz.
Accompanied by the Inner Circle, the AEW World Champion Chris Jericho was introduced next. The crowd sang along to Fozzy’s “Judas.” Jericho and the Inner Circle were wearing matching “Painmaker Posse” track outfits.
Jon Moxley untied his bootlaces and stepped on the scale first.
“Mox is in great shape,” said Jim Ross.
“234 lbs. is the official weight of Jon Moxley,” said Gary Michael Cappetta.
Jericho stepped onto the scale next, but he appeared to be stalling, first removing his sunglasses, and then he slowly removed his bandana. Jericho belittled the Kansas City crowd.
Jericho walked up and said something in Moxley’s face. Moxley head-butted Le Champion, busting Jericho wide open. The Inner Circle swarmed onto Mox like a pack of wild dogs. It was pure bedlam!
“The Natural” Dustin Rhodes ran down to Moxley’s aid, and he took “Big Hurt” Jake Hager over the top rope with a clothesline! Bodies were flying everywhere! Rhodes and Hager were brawling in the concourse of the arena. Hager slammed Rhodes’ head into the Dipping Dots ice cream cart!
“Dear Lord, not the Dipping Dots!” yelled Jim Ross.
Darby Allin sprinted to the ring with his skateboard in hand, but Sammy rocked him with a knee to the side of the face! Sammy broke the skateboard in half over Darby!
Mox got back to his feet but a bloody Jericho decimated Mox with the Judas Effect elbow, and then used the Paradigm Shift on a stunned Mox, smacking him headfirst into the metal scale!
“It’s going to be a bloodbath this Saturday night at the AEW REVOLUTION pay-per-view!” said Jim Ross.
