THREE-WAY TRIOS BATTLE...
Undisputed Kingdom (Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, & Roderick Strong) vs. Shane Taylor Promotions (Capt. Shawn Dean, Carlie Bravo, & Shane Taylor) vs. TNT Champion Daniel Garcia, Angelo Parker, & Matt Menard
Over the last several weeks the AEW faithful have witnessed quite a rivalry building up between Undisputed Kingdom, Shane Taylor Promotions, and the trio of TNT Champion Daniel Garcia, Daddy Magic, and Cool Hand Ang. We saw Undisputed Kingdom defeat STP representatives ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty, Carlie Bravo, and Shawn Dean during COLLISION: MAXIMUM CARNAGE as well as beat the Garcia/Parker/Menard collective at COLLISION: HOMECOMING 2025 a week later. Just last week, in a Three-Way fight for the TNT Championship, it was Garcia who successfully defended his title against Kyle O'Reilly and Lee Moriarty but it likely would've turned into a war if not for UK banding with Garcia and company to hold off STP.
Well tonight on COLLISION, there won't be anything preventing all-out war between these three units because all three will be engaged in this Three-Way Trios battle! UK are on quite a roll with trios victories over Garcia et al as well as STP, albeit a different configuration, but can they keep that up when faced with both simultaneously? Or will this be a case of Cole, O'Reilly, and Strong uniting with Garcia, Daddy Magic, and Cool Hand Ang to cut Shane Taylor Promotions out of the equation so they can settle it between each other? After all, while those two groups have essentially been on the same page in this whole situation, things change as tensions get higher and especially when all three members of Undisputed Kingdom have eyes for Daniel Garcia's TNT Championship!
CONTINENTAL CLASSIC REMATCH...
Don Callis Family's “The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher vs. Mark Briscoe
At COLLISION: WINTER IS COMING 2024, in a Continental Classic Blue League battle, Mark Briscoe handed Kyle Fletcher his only loss in the league play portion of the tournament. “The Protostar” had found ways to beat The Beast Mortos, Shelton Benjamin, and Kazuchika Okada before that run-in with the former ROH World Champion, but clearly Mark had watched how Fletcher got to that point unbeaten and was well prepared. Briscoe scored the win with a Jay Driller, and though Fletcher ultimately went on to WORLDS END 2024 to fight (and lose) to Will Ospreay in the Semifinals, Kyle never got over the loss to “Chicken”.
That brings us to this 2024 Continental Classic rematch between Mark Briscoe and Kyle Fletcher tonight on COLLISION! Kyle may have a huge match on his hands next week at GRAND SLAM: AUSTRALIA with the tag bout pitting he and AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita against Ospreay and Kenny Omega, but he just can't focus on that monumental fight without what he views as redemption for the Briscoe loss. It's as if Kyle can't accept that he was beat cleanly, and that Mark was prepared to cut off his dirty tactics, so he has to make it “right” in his mind before focusing on the trip to Australia.
Two months removed from the original fight, will history repeat itself with another Mark Briscoe victory and if so, will Kyle Fletcher be able to move on and turn his attention to GRAND SLAM: AUSTRALIA? Or will this be a decisive factor in costing “The Protostar” one of the biggest nights of his AEW career?
ONE-ON-ONE...
“La Mera Mera” Thunder Rosa vs. Penelope Ford
It's been more than three years since the last time “La Mera Mera” Thunder Rosa and “The Superbad Girl” Penelope Ford went one-on-one inside the squared circle, and suffice to say both women have gone through a great deal personally and professionally in those 1,270 days. Each suffered debilitating injuries that kept them out of the ring for extended periods of time, each has dealt with personal struggles away from the ring, but only Rosa has experienced the success of championship victory. Rosa reigned as Women's World Champion for 116 days that included six successful defenses, and it was only injury that brought an end to that run rather than actually being beaten for the title. Though Rosa has had two opportunities to reclaim the title since her return to action, one versus Toni Storm and the other against Mariah May, she's been unable to regain the title she never lost as of this point.
As for Penelope Ford, save a failed World Championship bid against Hikaru Shida at FYTER FEST 2020, “The Superbad Girl” has been far from championship status during her AEW tenure. The long layoff from injury certainly didn't help her when it came to getting into contention, but that just meant when she did finally return to action, Ford had to set her sights high and it doesn't get much higher than gunning for former Women's World Champion Jamie Hayter. Though that fight didn't go Ford's way, that didn't stop her from taking on the top of the division. In the five fights she's had since returning to action, Ford has faced three former champions, and tonight she adds a fourth to that resume when she tries to, in her words, put Thunder Rosa in the ground!
Can Ford take that next step forward in her career with a victory over “La Mera Mera” or will this be the beginning of Rosa's road back to championship contention?
GLAMOROUS EXHIBITION MATCH...
After spending the first-half of her AEW tenure manipulating “Timeless” Toni Storm, it seems that AEW Women's World Champion Mariah May is not particularly fond of the shoe being on the other foot. This past Wednesday night, when the role of Mariah May was played by Toni Storm, “The Woman from Hell” sat at the commentary table seething. Mariah found herself stumbling over her words, her fury growing each time Excalibur mistakenly (or perhaps purposefully) called Toni by her name, and after Storm's victory it seemed like GRAND SLAM: AUSTRALIA was going to come early.
However Mariah walked away in utter frustration, leaving Toni Storm in the ring still locked in her role as “The Glamour”, and leaving no question that “The Timeless One” had gotten to her. As if in response to Toni taking on Queen Aminata on DYNAMITE, it was announced that Mariah May would participate in her own “Glamorous Exhibition” tonight on COLLISION! Who will face off with the AEW Women's World Champion in Houston, and will Mariah use this opportunity to send a message of her own back at her GRAND SLAM: AUSTRALIA opponent?
GRUDGE MATCH...
“Bad Apple” Bryan Keith vs. “Most Wanted” Bandido
$200,000; that's how much money “The Nueve” Chris Jericho has put on the head of Bandido for “The Bad Apple” Bryan Keith to collect on COLLISION. Perhaps, at least for tonight, Keith should once again be referred to as “The Bounty Hunter” given the nature of this situation, after all it was the moniker he used before sitting down under Jericho's Learning Tree. Keith has the ability to take it to Bandido, and he's certainly got the support system in The Learning Tree to help him out if need be.
The question however is if Bandido is ready for the fight; after all it's been 603 days since the last time Bandido fought on an AEW event, though he did make a surprising return at Ring of Honor's FINAL BATTLE 2024 event following Chris Jericho's ROH World Championship victory over Matt Cardona. As a former ROH World Champion, Bandido actually made his AEW debut against Jericho during his first ROH World Title reign when Chris aimed to establish himself as champ via victories over former ROH champions.
Given his status as a former ROH World Champion, as well as the history between he and Jericho from that 9/28/22 match on DYNAMITE, it tracks that “El Mas Buscado” would step up to Jericho and The Learning Tree now that “The Nueve” has his hands on that title once again. Yet is Bandido ready for what that entails after nearly 20 months on the shelf, or will “The Bounty Hunter” collect that $200K tonight in Houston?
HALFTIME HARLEY!
Harley Cameron may have finally scored her first televised singles victory last week on COLLISION, but that doesn't mean TBS Champion Mercedes Moné is rewarding her with the title match at GRAND SLAM: AUSTRALIA that Harley had hoped for. In fact, just watching the video embedded above, it's reasonable to think that there's nothing Harley could do in order to convince “The CEO” of her worth as a championship challenger.
That doesn't mean Harley's going to stop trying with the week she has left, so with that in mind, what will she present to the world with this Halftime Harley performance in Houston? Will it be song? Will it be ventriloquism? Will it be what she needs to push Mercedes into giving Harley the championship opportunity she craves in Australia? Tune in this Saturday night to see what Halftime Harley brings to the stage!
FACE-TO-FACE...
With 325 days as AEW Continental Champion to his credit, “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada is the longest-reigning current champion in AEW by quite a bit. As he creeps towards one year as champion (a milestone looming on March 20th), and his 10th defense scheduled for GRAND SLAM: AUSTRALIA, Okada is set to meet his February 15th foe face-to-face tonight on COLLISION! Buddy Matthews has made his intentions for the Continental Championship know for weeks now, and that Hound of Hell will get a championship opportunity in his home country. However, with only one week to go before the title contest, Buddy will have to settle for tonight's meeting with “The Rainmaker” and sizing up his foe ahead of their first battle in All Elite Wrestling!
