AEW Collision Preview for November 16, 2024

FULL GEAR 2024 is only seven days away, meaning just one week until Orange Cassidy challenges AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, until TBS Champion Mercedes Moné defends against former champion Kris Statlander, and until Will Ospreay fights his former best friend Kyle Fletcher! Every moment matters as we heads towards AEW's return to Newark, NJ and the Prudential Center, especially with a show as loaded as tonight's COLLISION! We will witness Anna Jay make one last bid for the title around AEW Women's World Champion Mariah May's waist, only this time the stakes are tripled. It's not just the championship on the line, it's not the fact it's also a No Disqualification bout, it's also the addendum that if Anna Jay loses, she'll never challenge for the title as long as “The Glamour” remains champion!

In addition to that fight, we shall find out who the final team in FULL GEAR 2024's 4-Way World Tag Team Championship match will be! Already The Outrunners and House of Black have qualified to battle Private Party for the belts, but will it be The Acclaimed or LFI who take that fourth spot? Plus, as Daniel Garcia draws closer to his TNT Championship bout with “Scapegoat” Jack Perry on November 23rd, he is set to fight Johnny TV one-on-one, but it looks like MxM Collection will be in his corner! Powerhouse Hobbs will be in action against Iron Savages' Bronson, Komander takes on Shelton Benjamin, and Mina Shirakawa returns to AEW action to face Harley Cameron!

COLLISION kicks off at 8pm ET/7pm CT on TNT, so before the night begins be sure to visit AEW's official YouTube channel to watch all the highlights from DYNAMITE, last night's RAMPAGE, and so much more All Elite Wrestling content on the road to FULL GEAR 2024. Then join us for the next stop on that road in Reading,PA for the final DYNAMITE before the pay-per-view! We already know Wheeler Yuta will fight his former mentor Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin will clash with Claudio Castagnoli, but there's so much more still to come in Reading, and that's not all we've got going on November 20th! It's also the day of the ALL IN: TEXAS 2025 Kick-Off Party where you'll have a chance to watch DYNAMITE with the athletes of AEW, as well as be the first fans able to purchase tickets for that landmark AEW event on July 12, 2025!

AEW WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP NO DQ MATCH...

“The Glamour” Mariah May(c) vs. Anna Jay

On the heels of an Eliminator victory over the AEW Women's World Champion, Anna Jay stepped into the ring with Mariah May two weeks ago in Philadelphia. After a hard-fought battle, the defending champion was able to retain the title after secure a pinning combination on Anna Jay for which she had no counter. It was very similar to how Anna won the aforementioned Eliminator Match, and while a victory is a victory, it was not the sort of statement win that decisively knocked Anna Jay out of contention. Still, it's not as if Mariah May is a champion willing to hand out a title fight against a woman she's already beaten, at least not without something more at stake. Apparently Anna's future as a viable contender was enough to bring this rematch to life, the added No Disqualification stipulation certainly didn't hurt either.

Now Anna Jay is no stranger to such situations, she's got two quite memorable Tag Team Street Fights on her AEW resume, and in those demonstrated no qualms about getting violent. While we have seen Mariah May get downright vicious outside the confines of a match, just look at what she did to Toni Storm after her 2024 Owen Hart Foundation Women's Tournament victory, we've never seen her in this kind of match before. Will that added stipulation play in Anna Jay's favor, or will it allow Mariah May the opportunity to give full breadth to the monster we've only caught glimpses of in the past?

FULL GEAR 2024 4-WAY CONTENDERS SERIES MATCH...

The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) vs. LFI (RUSH & The Beast Mortos)

It's been 18 months since the last time The Acclaimed stepped into the ring with La Facción Ingobernable, but that night on RAMPAGE it was in trios competition against RUSH, Dralistico, and Preston Vance as Daddy Ass, Max Caster, and Anthony Bowens prepared to challenge House of Black for the AEW World Trios Titles at DOUBLE OR NOTHING 2023. The Acclaimed were victorious that night, but that was a long time ago, and so much has changed since that night. Dralistico still stands as a member of LFI alongside RUSH, but they've taken on The Beast Mortos as a member while Preston Vance has elected to travel his own path in Ring of Honor as of late. In addition, LFI has acquired the managerial services of the legendary Jake “The Snake” Roberts, quite possibly the most sadistic man to ever set foot inside a wrestling ring during his career, and one who now uses his twisted intellect to help men like the LFI members reach their goals.

As for The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn, after their record-setting 238-day reign as Trios Champions ended, Caster and Bowens decided to return their focus to the tag team division with the goal of reclaiming the titles lost to The Gunns back on the February 8, 2023 edition of DYNAMITE. They've been frustrated in that endeavor multiple times, first losing a Four-Way Title fight at REVOLUTION 2023 prior to their Trios Title victory, and then coming up short in their challenges against The Young Bucks. Much like Private Party, they were able to defeat the brothers Jackson in an Eliminator Match in June of this year, but when they finally received their shot at the titles two months later, it ended in a DQ as a result of FTR's involvement, and the Three-Way bout involving those teams at ALL IN: LONDON 2024 went in favor of The Young Bucks. They were also unable to secure the DYNAMITE: GRAND SLAM 2024 title opportunity on the line during the first-ever Tag Team Casino Gauntlet, a match won by Kyle Fletcher and Will Ospreay. It hasn't been the best year in the AEW careers of The Acclaimed when it comes to the title picture, but at least they head into this having won their last three traditional tag, and at least they are still the winningest team in AEW history with 61 victories to their credit.

So who will take home the victory tonight and move on to next Saturday's championship fight at FULL GEAR 2024? Will it be the former champions looking to take back their spot atop the division? Will it be the ruthless LFI pair coming off their violent victory last night on RAMPAGE? Private Party, The Outrunners, and House of Black best have their eyes on this one to see just what's in store for them in one week's time!

ONE-ON-ONE...

Daniel Garcia vs. Johnny TV

Daniel Garcia is just one week away from fighting “Scapegoat” Jack Perry in a TNT Championship fight at FULL GEAR 2024. It will be his third TNT Championship challenge after fighting Sammy Guevara for the interim title almost four years ago, and battling Christian Cage eight months ago at REVOLUTION 2024. It's been a long hard road to get there, largely due to the actions of MJF in the recent past, but Garcia is almost to the promised land. He's just got a few more stops along the way, notably tonight's fight with Johnny TV on COLLISION!

The world-traveled, multi-time champion has been quite preoccupied with MxM Collection lately as Mansoor and Mason Madden are hot to collaborate with Mr. Television, they even proposed a trios match for tonight's action, but Johnny was already signed for this fight with Daniel Garcia. He counter-proposed that they join him ringside for the match, meaning Garcia has got the numbers going against him tonight! It's not just Johnny TV he'll have to overcome, but also the possibility that MxM Collection insert themselves into this bout. Can Garcia continue to build momentum ahead of his fight with Jack Perry next week, or will Johnny TV commit the fashionable faux pas of stealing a victory?

SINGLES MATCH...

The Hurt Syndicate's Shelton Benjamin vs. Komander

Coming into this fight after scoring a tremendous over Rocky Romero last night on RAMPAGE, Komander has his work cut out for him trying to go two in a row because standing across the ring will be The Hurt Syndicate's Shelton Benjamin! After participating in a vicious beatdown on Swerve Strickland and an assault on Prince Nana this past Wednesday, Shelton is looking to get back in the ring and make up for that loss suffered at Swerve's hands on October 30th's FRIGHT NIGHT DYNAMITE.

It's going to take every bit of speed and agility Komander has in his body to stay a step ahead of one of pro wrestling's greatest athletes, but if he can string the right combination together, and stay out of Shelton's grip, perhaps Komander can shock the world with a victory. It's not quite ice skating, but it's certainly going to be an uphill battle for the high-flying luchador tonight on COLLISION! If he's not careful, he's going to find himself suplexed on his head and put down for the three-count by Wrestling's Gold Standard...

ONE-ON-ONE...

Mina Shirakawa vs. Harley Cameron

Mina Shirakawa makes her return to in-ring competition for All Elite Wrestling tonight on COLLISION, but she's got to deal with the...wrath...of Harley Cameron along with that return. It's hard to argue against how much Cameron has improved since her debut in AEW, perhaps being around a former multi-time World Champion like Saraya rubbed off on her, but it's also because she's put in the work by facing Thunder Rosa, Kris Statlander, Jamie Hayter, and Hikaru Shida, just to name a few. Stepping into the fray with former champions such as those can only serve to make a competitor better, and Harley has clearly learned from each of those fights. Unfortunately she's completely unhinged when she's not competing, and that's perfectly showcased by her interaction with Mina shown above.

There's no doubt Harley Cameron is going to give Mina Shirakawa a tremendous fight, but can she finally win that big match now that she's standing on her own without Saraya? It would be a boon to Harley's career to spoil Mina's return to the AEW stage, especially on the same show where Mina's dear Mariah May is defending her AEW Women's World Championship, but can she keep a lid on her...self...long enough to focus on the battle at hand?
