AEW Collision Preview for October 5, 2024

WRESTLEDREAM 2024 is just one week away, and on that night we know AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson will face former Blackpool Combat Club ally Jon Moxley with that title on the line. We also know AEW International Champion Will Ospreay will defend against both Ricochet and “The Alpha” Konosuke Takeshita and that Washington's own Darby Allin has laid out an Open Challenge for his return home! Given all that is at stake, both the titles and Danielson's promise to retire when he finally loses the World Title, October 12th is going to be an intense evening of action.

However, before we get to Tacoma, there are still a few stops along the way, and that includes Toledo, OH and the Huntington Center for tonight's edition of COLLISION! Tonight we add to the WRESTLEDREAM 2024 championship scene with a Three-Way Tag Team bout to determine The Young Bucks challengers in Tacoma. House of Black, Private Party, and Top Flight will fight to see who gets that shot, and after last night's RAMPAGE, Zay and Quen may be the team The EVPs hope win out! Plus, ahead of his tag team bout on DYNAMITE: TITLE TUESDAY, AEW World Trios Champion Wheeler Yuta will be in singles action against BEEF, and we will also see Willow Nightingale take on Trish Adora, Kris Statlander in singles competition, The Conglomeration versus Premier Athletes, Darby Allin facing Johnny TV in a first-time bout, a wild Four-Way battle, and a rematch between GYV and The Outrunners!

COLLISION kicks off at 8pm ET/7pm CT on TNT, so make a point to visit AEW's official YouTube channel to catch-up on highlights from this week's DYNAMITE and RAMPAGE, previous editions of COLLISION, and so much more from All Elite Wrestling! Then we head off to the Pacific Northwest for WRESTLEDREAM '24 week, starting in Spokane, WA where Wheeler Yuta and AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson face “The Bastard” PAC and Claudio Castagnoli as part of DYNAMITE: TITLE TUESDAY!

THREE-WAY TAG TITLE # 1 CONTENDER MATCH...

House of Black (Buddy Matthews & Malakai Black) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) vs. Top Flight (Dante & Darius Martin)

***WINNER FACES THE YOUNG BUCKS AT WRESTLEDREAM 2024***

What we have here is a collection of talented combatants all gunning for a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship, but for one team it is also specifically about the fact those titles are held by The Young Bucks. On DYNAMITE, fans heard Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen call out Matthew and Nicholas Jackson for a fight, just as they witnessed The EVPs beg off actually getting into the ring with Private Party. If it wasn't for Christopher Daniels intervening in his role as Interim EVP, perhaps that would have been the end of the story for Zay and Quen, but instead “The Fallen Angel” put together the trios bout we witnessed last night on RAMPAGE. In a bout pitting The Elite of TNT Champion Jack Perry and The Young Bucks against Private Party and Katsuyori Shibata, Marq Quen rolled up Matthew Jackson in the exact same way he did five years ago in the 2019 World Tag Title Tournament.

After the words Private Party shared with the world on DYNAMITE, it made for quite the satisfying moment, but that victory in trios competition didn't insure them that shot at the gold they really want, that still has to be earned tonight, and in order to do so they've got to battle with two distinctly different teams.

On one hand there is Top Flight, Dante and Darius Martin, the two men that Private Party spent the first quarter of 2024 battling with, but it never came to a satisfying conclusion for either team. In two traditional tags during the month of January, they split the difference with Private Party getting the first win and Top Flight getting the second. They did meet a third time in March, but that was in a Three-Way Tag that also featured the Bryan Keith/Komander tandem, and Top Flight scored that victory by pinning Komander, meaning these two teams remain deadlocked in the traditional tag format.

Unfortunately for their rivalry, that will remain the case tonight as a third party is also involved in this equation, but one quite different than the Keith/Komander team. This time around their third opponents are men who honor House of Black: Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews! Two of AEW's deadliest strikers are coming for their first shot at the World Tag Titles together, and Buddy's first opportunity overall. Malakai had one unsuccessful chance last year when he and Brody King were involved in the FULL GEAR 2023 Four-Way Ladder Match while Buddy and Brody were eliminated from the 2024 World Tag Title Tournament in a shocking upset victory scored by The Infantry.

Now Buddy and Malakai come into this fight having defeated the Martin brothers allies, Action Andretti and Lio Rush, in a RAMPAGE tag team bout on September 27th while Top Flight's last tag bout was a win over MxM Collection on the August 16th RAMPAGE. There's been a lot of trios and multi-man competition in the Top Flight camp as of late, and Dante is actually fresh off a tour of RevPro with Lio Rush where he made it to the Finals of their British J-Cup 2024 Tournament, losing to Lio in the Four-Way Elimination match. Suffice it to say all three teams come into this well prepared for battle, but who will parlay that preparation into victory and a pay-per-view championship match at WRESTLEDREAM 2024?

FOUR-WAY BOUT...

Action Andretti vs. Hologram vs. Komander vs. The Patriarchy's Nick Wayne

What a chaotic piece of entertainment it will be tonight on COLLISION when these four high-flying athletes step into the ring for Four-Way competition! Hologram comes into this undefeated, 12-0 with four singles victories, and one of those in last week's Three-Way battle against Dralistico and The Beast Mortos. This will be his first Four-Way fray in AEW competition, but thus far Hologram has proven more than any opponent can figure out, and this bout will also be the first time several of these men have faced off in singles competition in AEW.

Andretti and Komander once fought in an Elimination Four-Way where Action was responsible for taking Komander out of the contest, and they met twice in trios competition, with each man's team scoring a victory. Komander teamed up with Nick Wayne once just over a year ago, but they've never fought each other, and none of them have shared the ring with Hologram prior to tonight.

Which of these four competitors will soar to victory tonight in Toledo?

TAG TEAM BOUT...

Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) vs.

The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd)

Five weeks ago the Grizzled Young Veterans stepped into the ring with The Outrunners on RAMPAGE and scored their first victory in All Elite Wrestling. It was a match that declared to the tag team division that James Drake and Zack Gibson were here for the fight, but that wasn't the only effect it had. The fight flipped a switch for Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd, made them realize they could be more than just fan favorite competitors who came close to victory but never quite got there. The bout had such an effect on their mentality that seven days later on COLLISION, The Outrunners scored their first televised victory in AEW and just their second ever since debuting on the 9/13/21 episode of DARK: ELEVATION! They stepped up their game in the first-ever Tag Team Casino Gauntlet, they found allies in FTR, and even went to battle alongside Cash Wheeler, Dax Harwood, and HOOK two weeks ago. Their quintet may not have scored the victory over RUSH, Roderick Strong, The Beast Mortos, and GYV that night, but it showed the world Truth and Turbo brought far more to the table than just their outlandish personalities.

After taking on the Coney Island boardwalk last week, and defeating The Infantry two days during ROH ON HONOR CLUB, the Youngest Men Alive are ready to even the score with some Grizzled Young Veterans tonight on COLLISION! We know they've been hanging and banging with FTR as of late, calling themselves the FTRunners, so have they picked up some tips from Cash and Dax about how to handle Drake and Gibson? We will find out tonight when tag team wrestling takes over TNT!

ONE-ON-ONE...

Willow Nightingale vs. The Infantry's Trish Adora

It is quite clear after the above embedded confrontation that former TBS Champion Willow Nightingale wants a piece of AEW Women's World Champion Mariah May, especially after what “The Glamour” did to Yuka Sakazaki at GRAND SLAM 2024 after her World Championship bout with Mariah. Since Willow didn't get to take her frustrations out on the champ thanks to the timely arrival of Interim EVP Christopher Daniels and AEW security, it looks like she'll have to settle for a dance with The Infantry's Trish Adora tonight on COLLISION!

Now these two competitors are quite familiar with one another, last locking horns one-on-one during ROH's FINAL BATTLE 2022: ZERO HOUR, but they've got several matches to their shared history dating back to 2017. In terms of singles matches, these two fighters are all tied up with one victory a piece, making this the rubber match in their career series! Nightingale carries the momentum in that having scored the victory last time they met, but Trish Adora is all about applying her love of chess to the wrestling game and thinking several moves ahead of her foe. Willow is all about Mariah May right now, and that distraction may prove the key allowing Trish to put Nightingale in checkmate!

SINGLES MATCH...

AEW World Six-Man Champion Wheeler Yuta vs. BEEF

BEEF and his cousin (by marriage) Anthony Henry have been getting their reps in during ROH ON HONOR CLUB while Henry's Workhorsemen partner JD Drake heals up, but AEW viewers only got their eyes on the man for the first time when he fought Roderick Strong a few weeks back. He's quite the brawler, an athletic background in amateur wrestling and basketball, and for certain brings an unorthodox approach to his pro wrestling. BEEF gave Roddy a tough fight in their RAMPAGE bout, so he's certainly not a man to be underestimated, but he's also stepping into the ring with a Wheeler Yuta who's recovered the fire that earned him three ROH Pure Championship reigns!

After what we saw on DYNAMITE, it's clear that the sullen Yuta who stepped into the ring with cousin Anthony on September 14th's COLLISION is gone and that the weapon honed by his time with Blackpool Combat Club had returned. There's no question Yuta is looking to this match as a way to send Claudio Castagnoli and PAC a message ahead of their upcoming tag team bout set for DYNAMITE: TITLE TUESDAY, meaning BEEF better keep his head in the game at all times or Yuta will use him as an example for his championship partners!

TAG TEAM ACTION...

The Conglomeration (Kyle O'Reilly & Orange Cassidy) vs. Premier Athletes (Ariya Daivari & Tony Nese)

Coming off a victory over The Learning Tree's Big Bill and Bryan Keith on RAMPAGE, Kyle O'Reilly and Orange Cassidy look to continue The Conglomeration's momentum tonight on COLLISION with this tag team bout against Premier Athletes! The Conglomeration has been dancing with Ariya Daivari, Josh Woods, and Tony Nese in one form or another for the last several months, and have scored three victories over them in trios competition, but this is both the first tag match between the units, as well as the first time their engagement has involved Orange Cassidy!

That's not to say the 2-Time International Champion is unfamiliar with “Smart” Mark Sterling's clients, he's had his dances with both Daivari and Nese in the past and found success against both. It is, however, the first time he's faced them as a team, as well as the first time he's dealt with either man having O'Reilly as his partner. This conglomeration configuration have made a solid tandem thus far, but they're just 1-1 together, giving the definite team experience edge to Premier Athletes, but will that be enough to overcome everything OC and KO bring to the table?

PREPARATION...

Darby Allin vs. Johnny TV

Darby Allin laid out the Open Challenge for WRESTLEDREAM 2024 in just seven days, but he's not going to just sit back and wait until AEW hits Tacoma to get into a fight. Tonight on COLLISION, for the first time in All Elite Wrestling, Darby is going to battle against Johnny TV in a rematch of a February 2019 bout for DEFY! Darby was barely four years into his wrestling career when last they met and Johnny put his experience advantage to use to score a victory. Fast forward five years to tonight's battle, and Darby has gone through hell and back multiple times as a member of AEW roster, and shoved more experience into just one of those years than in the entirety of the four that preceded it.  His body has been battered and bruised, but his spirit has never been broken, not even after losing his AEW World Championship opportunity to Jon Moxley at DYNAMITE: GRAND SLAM 2024 ten days ago.

Tonight Darby dusts himself off, gets back into the ring, and prepares for whatever, or whoever, WRESTLEDREAM 2024 may bring!
