AEW Dynamite Preview for August 28, 2024

ALL IN: LONDON 2024 was an epic night in the annals of All Elite Wrestling history. From monumental announcements about GRAND SLAM 2025 in Australia and FORBIDDEN DOOR 2025 in London, to the debut of Ricochet during the Casino Gauntlet, to the return of former AEW Women's World Champion Jamie Hayter during ZERO HOUR, to the crowning of FIVE new champions including new AEW World Champion “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson, it was unquestionably one of the most exciting nights in AEW's history.

But now all eyes turn to Chicago, and the NOW Arena, where ALL OUT 2024 will emanate from on Saturday September 7th! We already know that “The Bastard” PAC will challenge “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay that night for his newly-reclaimed AEW International Championship, but what else will we see come together over the course of the next two weeks? Tonight's DYNAMITE from Champaign, IL will begin telling that tale as we see Ricochet make his DYNAMITE debut against Kyle Fletcher and Jamie Hayter in her return to action for the first time since DOUBLE OR NOTHING 2023. We will also hear from the new AEW World Champion regarding his future post-ALL IN: LONDON 2024, and we've got a huge 8-Man All-Star Tag on tap as The Conglomeration and HOOK face Roderick Strong and The Learning Tree!

The action begins at 8pm ET/7pm CT on TBS, or check here for viewing options outside the United States, but no matter where you are, make a point to visit the official AEW YouTube channel to watch highlights from DYNAMITE, COLLISION, RAMPAGE, as well as post-match comments from ALL IN: LONDON 2024, to get prepared for tonight! Then on Saturday AEW heads to Sioux Falls, SD for COLLISION at the Denny Sanford Premier Center before kicking off ALL OUT 2024 week in Milwaukee with our return to the UW Panther Arena on September 4th!

THE ERA OF THE DRAGON...

Sunday night at Wembley Stadium, in front of 50,000-plus fans in attendance and the eyes of the world watching on pay-per-view, “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson defeated Swerve Strickland to win the AEW World Championship with his wife and children watching on at ringside. With the future of his wrestling career at stake, Danielson was able to fight through blood and pain to overcome a man many consider the most dangerous in All Elite Wrestling and leave Wembley as the 12th World Champion in AEW history.

Now the question is what does the future hold for Bryan Danielson now that he's finally claimed the prize he's been chasing since arriving in AEW three years ago at ALL OUT 2021? We know that Christian Cage has earned a World Title match as a result of his Casino Gauntlet victory in London, but he's likely just one of many wanting a crack at Bryan, not just to claim the belt, but also to be known as the man who retired arguably the greatest professional wrestler of this generation. Nigel McGuinness made his return to action in that Casino Gauntlet, his first match in thirteen years, and there's no doubt that the possibility of Danielson becoming World Champion was motivation for the former ROH World Champion's choice to lace up the boots once again. Swerve likely wants a shot at reclaiming the title he held so dearly for 126 days, maybe Hangman Page wants to try and get it before Swerve does just to spite the man but also to even the score for losing to Bryan in The Owen Finals.

Those are just a few people who may want a piece of Danielson after ALL IN: LONDON 2024, but before that stage is set, we need to hear from the man himself about his future, and that will happen tonight on DYNAMITE!

THE AGE OF THE GLAMOUR...

Sunday was a day of championship changes, and one of the most emotional of those took place when “Timeless” Toni Storm faced “The Glamour” Mariah May for the AEW Women's World Championship. Given all that had taken place between the two of them since Mariah first arrived in All Elite Wrestling, there was a great deal of anticipation from the fans for the fight, not to mention a tremendous amount of emotional investment from both champion and challenger.

Ultimately it came down to Mariah May pinning Toni Storm's shoulders to the mat with her own Storm Zero to end Toni's 281-day reign and begin the Age of The Glamour. We saw Toni wander off into the street surrounding Wembley with Luther giving chase, we heard brief words from Mariah May delivered in the immediate aftermath of the fight, but tonight on DYNAMITE we will experience The Glamour's victory celebration!

These things have a tendency to blow up in the face of the individual trying to celebrate their accomplishments; will that be the case for the new AEW Women's World Champion or will she be able to pull off a party without a hitch?

A DYNAMITE DEBUT...

“The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher vs. Ricochet

After much speculation, the AEW faithful saw the amazing Ricochet make his All Elite Wrestling debut as the tenth entrant into Sunday's Casino Gauntlet. Though he was not fortunate enough to get the winning pin, that prize went to Christian Cage, Ricochet made an indelible impression on the fans inside Wembley and the worldwide pay-per-view audience. Two people he did not impress however were Don Callis and “The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher; in fact, as heard in the comments from Don and Kyle included in the video embedded at the top of the page, they've challenged the 3-Time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Champion to a match tonight on DYNAMITE!

Fletcher has been wildly impressive throughout his AEW tenure, especially during his 196-day tenure as ROH World TV Champion, but he's going to be put to the test tonight against Ricochet. He's coming into this super-hot after that exciting ALL IN: LONDON 2024 debut with all the support of the fans behind him as he looks to make an immediate impact on AEW! The eyes of the wrestling world will be on this one to see just how Ricochet fares in his debut on AEW's flagship program.

AND A DYNAMITE RETURN...

Jamie Hayter vs. The Outcasts' Harley Cameron

Prior to the ZERO HOUR before ALL IN: LONDON 2024, it had been 454 days since the AEW faithful last saw Jamie Hayter. That night in Las Vegas, DOUBLE OR NOTHING 2023, Toni Storm defeated Hayter to reclaim the AEW Women's World Championship 190 days after Jamie defeated her in their first title fight at FULL GEAR 2022. That Sin City showdown last barely three minutes in large part because Storm's then-allies Ruby Soho and Saraya got themselves involved in the fracas before the match even began, assaulting Hayter, and even triple-teaming her before the bell rang. Hayter insisted on continuing the fight, thankfully Dr. Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida evened the odds by removing the other Outcasts from the playing field, but the damage had already been done, and it took just minutes from Storm to drop Hayter with Storm Zero and take the belt.

Fast forward one year, two months, and twenty-seven days, the landscape of the AEW Women's Division is dramatically different than it was when Hayter left, but Jamie's desire for revenge against those who took that time away from her has only strengthened. That was evident on Sunday afternoon, when Hayter returned to the AEW stage at Wembley Stadium, and went straight after Saraya and her Outcasts' ally Harley Cameron.

Saraya fled Hayter's quest for revenge, leaving Harley to take the bullet, and it looks like Cameron is stepping into the line of fire against tonight on DYNAMITE when she goes one-on-one with the former AEW Women's World Champion in Champaign! The April 19, 2023 edition of DYNAMITE was the last time Hayter stepped into the ring on AEW's flagship program, a tag team victory over Ruby and Toni while Saraya stood at ringside, and now “The Unproblematic Icon” will have another ringside seat to watch Jamie Hayter take apart her current “friend”...

ALL-STAR EIGHT-MAN TAG...

FTW Champion HOOK & The Conglomeration (ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe, Kyle O'Reilly, & Orange Cassidy) vs. Roderick Strong & The Learning Tree (Chris Jericho, “The Redwood” Big Bill, & “Bad Apple” Bryan Keith)

Sunday was not the best night for seven of the eight people involved in this contest; none of the members of The Conglomeration won the Casino Gauntlet Match, nor did Undisputed Kingdom member Roderick Strong. Chris Jericho, even with the help of Big Bill and Bryan Keith, was unable to retain the FTW Championship, leaving HOOK the only individual who had a reason to celebrate ALL IN: LONDON 2024.

The difference between the members of The Conglomeration and their four opponents tonight on DYNAMITE is that they take the lumps, don't complain, and move on to the next fight while Jericho, his ilk, and Roddy Strong likely have formulated a dozen excuses for their loss, none of which put the blame on themselves. That means this is going to be quite the interesting eight-man tag tonight on DYNAMITE as seven individuals look to get back on track after Wembley, while one looks to keep his momentum going as the 3-Time FTW Champion. Which quartet will win out in Champaign? Tune in tonight starting at 8pm ET to see how it all unfolds!

ONE-ON-ONE...

“The Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii vs. “Hangman” Adam Page

They've fought in tag, trios, and other multi-man matches. They've battled in All Elite Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and in New Japan Pro Wrestling. They even squared off in NJPW's World Tag League 2018 tournament, but never once have Hangman Page and Tomohiro Ishii gone one-on-one before tonight's DYNAMITE contest!

Hangman threw down with three of Ishii's Conglomeration allies during the Casino Gauntlet on Sunday, though it was ultimately Jeff Jarrett who decided Page's fate in that World Title #1 Contender situation, while Ishii tagged up with Willow Nightingale to take down Stokely Hathaway and Kris Statlander in a Mixed Tag. Tonight it's back to traditional singles competition as Hangman aims to take out his frustrations on Ishii, while “The Stone Pitbull” sees it as another day, another fight, and it doesn't matter who is standing in front of him because he's got some stiff shots coming their way!

This is going to be hard-hitting throw down in Champaign, and one can't help but wonder if Swerve Strickland will have his eyes on this the way Hangman kept his eye on the AEW World Championship match at Wembley?

ALL OUT 2024 is just ten days away on Saturday September 7th, so as All Elite Wrestling heads towards that annual celebration of professional wrestling where PAC will face new AEW International Champion Will Ospreay, we return to Champaign, IL to begin setting the stage! Tonight we will see Kyle Fletcher face AEW's newest acquisition Ricochet in his DYNAMITE debut, and in her return to AEW competition Jamie Hayter will take on Harley Cameron! Plus AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson, just days after defeating Swerve Strickland to claim that title, will address his future as we head towards our NOW Arena return, and there's a big All-Star 8-Man Tag on tap as The Conglomeration and HOOK take on Roderick Strong and The Learning Tree!

The night gets underway at 8pm ET/7pm CT on TBS, also check here for viewing options outside the United States, so make a point to visit the official AEW YouTube channel to catch the highlights from DYNAMITE, COLLISION, and RAMPAGE, plus post-match from ALL IN: LONDON 2024, the ALL IN: LONDON Media Scrum, amd more to get you ready for tonight! Then AEW is off to Sioux Falls, SD on Saturday for COLLISION at the Denny Sanford Premier Center before getting ALL OUT 2024 week underway in Milwaukee with a return to the UW Panther Arena on September 4th!
