AEW Dynamite Preview for September 4, 2024

ALL OUT 2024 week is upon us, and the whirlwind of action brings All Elite Wrestling back to Milwaukee, WI at the UWM Panther Arena for the last DYNAMITE before ALL OUT 2024 airs live on pay-per-view! We already know that four championships will be defended come Saturday, and that Swerve Strickland will battle Hangman Page inside a Steel Cage, but what else will unfold before we get to September 7th? The answers to that question will come together starting tonight when the AEW Women's World Title is on the line as champion Mariah May faces former Champion Nyla Rose for the first time, and when AEW World Trios Champions Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and “The Bastard” PAC face AEW International Champion Will Ospreay, Orange Cassidy, and Kyle O'Reilly in a Trios contest.

On Saturday we also heard Hikaru Shida tell Mercedes Moné she'd see her Wednesday ahead of their TBS Championship match at ALL OUT 2024, AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada defends versus Kyle Fletcher, and there's plenty more on tap as we get ready for the fifth anniversary of his pay-per-view event!

DYNAMITE gets underway at 8pm ET/7pm CT on TBS, or check here for viewing options outside the United States, but regardless of where you live, fans can always drop by the official AEW YouTube channel to catch highlights from DYNAMITE, COLLISION, and RAMPAGE, as well as HEY!(EW), to get prepared for tonight's action! Then on Friday night All Elite Wrestling returns to the Chicagoland area for COLLISION followed by our ALL OUT 2024 pay-per-view spectacular on Saturday, with both events taking place at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates!

AEW WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH...

“The Glamour” Mariah May(c) vs. “The Native Beast” Nyla Rose

It's almost a tradition for a new title holder in All Elite Wrestling's Woman's Division to face former AEW Women's World champion Nyla Rose in their first defense. Dr. Britt Baker faced Nyla in her first of the Women's World Title, as did Thunder Rosa, but it wasn't just the World Championship, Kris Statlander took on Nyla in her first defense of the TBS Championship as well. Looking beyond the first defense, Rose has challenged three of the five TBS Champions in title fights, and of the eight other women's who've held the AEW Women's World Title, Nyla has fought four of them in championship bouts.

Yet, despite being the first woman to score 100 victories in the division, despite holding 63 singles wins, and competing in 154 matches, Nyla has not challenged for the AEW Women's World Title since April 16, 2022 at BATTLE OF THE BELTS II when she faced Thunder Rosa. It's not completely due to lack of opportunity, Nyla did compete in two different Four-Way Contender matches in 2023, she just wasn't the victorious competitor in either one.

But tonight on DYNAMITE that changes when, for the very first time, “The Native Beast” faces “The Glamour” Mariah May and the AEW Women's World Championship will be on the line! Mariah is riding high after defeating “Timeless” Toni Storm at ALL IN: LONDON 2024 and sending the former champion off into the streets surrounding Wembley Stadium, seemingly MIA until this brief clip of her showing up in Australia at Suncorp Stadium, the site of 2025's GRAND SLAM: AUSTRALIA event, surfaced.

Wherever Toni Storm is, whatever she is doing, that is no longer Mariah May's concern as her focus is on the future, on “The Era of The Glamour”, and the immediate future means meeting Nyla Rose in combat tonight with her title on the line! During the course of her AEW tenure, Mariah has yet to face a foe like “The Native Beast”, a woman whose size belies her speed, and who is as comfortable dropping that knee off the top rope as she is powerbombing her opponent through the canvas. Nyla is as hard-hitting and in-your-face as it gets in the Women's Division, and Mariah May is going to have her hands full with this as her first championship bout.

Will Mariah end up with the shortest reign in the history of the title, or will she make it to ALL OUT 2024 the reigning and defending AEW Women's World Champion?

AEW CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH...

The Elite's Kazuchika Okada(c) vs. Don Callis Family's “The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher

Kazuchika Okada managed to escape Cardiff two weeks ago with the AEW Continental Championship still around his waist after a 20-minute draw with Claudio Castagnoli. It marked the third successful defense in the now-168 day reign of “The Rainmaker”, but instead of skating by with three months between defenses as he did from Dax Harwood to Claudio, this Elite member is being put right back into action tonight on DYNAMITE! The lucky man who gets a shot at the Continental gold is none other than Don Callis Family member Kyle Fletcher, and “The Protostar” earned this one as a result of his victory on COLLISION over Okada's former CHAOS partner Tomohiro Ishii.

It wasn't an easy victory by any means, Ishii survived a nasty looking piledriver in the closing moments before being put down by a second disgusting one, but it was one that showed just how much fight Fletcher has in him. After being used by MJF as a pawn in the lead-up to his AEW “American” Championship match with Will Ospreay at ALL IN: LONDON 2024, Fletcher seemed hellbent on reasserting himself in match with “The Stone Pitbull” victory, and a victory like that certainly went a long way towards reminding the world Fletcher isn't just Ospreay's friend or one of Don Callis' lackeys. Kyle is a top tier talent himself, already indicated by his 196-day reign as ROH World Television Champion, not to mention his four tag team championship reigns with Mark Davis between ROH, NJPW, and NJPW STRONG.

Still, even with all that in-ring skill Kyle has, what he's got on-tap tonight is competition at a whole other level if the Kazuchika Okada of old shows up in Milwaukee as opposed to this Elite iteration aping Okada's identity. If Fletcher wants to really be put to the test, he best hope he gets the seven-time IWGP Champion version of Okada, the man who won the G1 Climax Tournament four times, and not the version who took advantage of his EVP connections to avoid defending the Continental Championship for three months.

While this may be the first singles match between Okada and Fletcher, they did face off in two other matches during 2023, the first taking place on the final night of the New Japan Cup 2023 Tour when the United Empire of Fletcher, Davis, and Jeff Cobb beat the CHAOS trio of Okada, Yoshi-Hashi, and Hirooki Goto. The second went down at CAPITAL COLLISION 2023 as Fletcher and Davis captured the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Titles in a Three-Way that included the team of Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi. Two matches, two wins for Fletcher's team, but this is singles competition and in that realm Kazuchika Okada has reigned supreme for quite some time.

Will he continue to do so tonight in Milwaukee, or will this be the night Kyle Fletcher ascends to the kind of global spotlight that comes with defeating “The Rainmaker” in a title fight?

TRIOS COMBAT...

AEW World Trios Champions (Claudio Castagnoli, PAC,  & Wheeler Yuta) vs.

AEW International Champion Will Ospreay & The Conglomeration (Kyle O'Reilly & Orange Cassidy)

In just three days “The Bastard” PAC will challenge “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay for his AEW International Championship. It's a title fight PAC earned when he defeated Claudio Castagnoli, Tomohiro Ishii, and Kyle Fletcher in a Global Glory Four-Way on July 10th, and one he patiently waited until after ALL IN: LONDON 2024 to receive. For “The Bastard” it may not have really mattered whether it was MJF or Ospreay who walked out of Wembley Stadium with the title, he was going to come after them with guns loaded no matter what, and besides he had his own moment to celebrate having captured the AEW World Trios Titles with Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta earlier in the night.

But once that all settled down, “The Bastard” lived up to his sobriquet just a week ago when he dropped Ospreay with a Poisonrana on the DYNAMITE stage while the International Champion had his attention focused on Ricochet. That was a moment many fans had been hoping to see from the second Ricochet made his surprise debut in the Casino Gauntlet at ALL IN: LONDON 2024, but PAC felt it necessary to remind Will just who should be occupying space in his mind right now.

It looks like “The Aerial Assassin” got that message loud and clear because tonight on DYNAMITE, with the BCC members at his side, PAC and Ospreay will meet in Trios competition, and it will be The Conglomeration joining the International Champion for the fray! There's plenty of history between PAC and Orange Cassidy, as well as Wheeler Yuta and Orange Cassidy ,to make this a tense Trios tussle, saying nothing of past intra-team fights that have gone down between PAC and Claudio, Orange and Will, Will and Kyle, Kyle and OC. There are so many threads tying these men together over their time in All Elite Wrestling, and of course the AEW International Title bout between PAC and Ospreay going down in three days time!

It's a chance for one man to get a leg-up on the other ahead of ALL OUT 2024; who will claim the advantage tonight in Milwaukee?

THE ACE...

Last Saturday on COLLISION 3-Time former AEW Women's World Champion Hikaru Shida defeated Thunder Rosa, Serena Deeb, and Queen Aminata to earn a title rematch with TBS Champion this Saturday night at ALL OUT 2024. It was three weeks ago in Norfolk that Shida first challenged Mercedes Moné for the belt, and there is no doubt that “The Brickhouse” Kamille played a huge role in determining the outcome of that one. Shida now has a second chance to knock “The CEO” off her championship perch this Saturday, but as we all heard her say following that Four-Way victory, Hikaru Shida promised Mercedes she'd see her tonight on DYNAMITE! What exactly did that cryptic comment mean? What does Shida have in mind for the TBS Champion ahead of their title fight at NOW Arena? Tune into TBS tonight to find out!

DYNAMITE comes your way tonight beginning at 8pm ET/7pm CT on TBS, or if you're outside of the United States visit here to see your viewing options outside the United States. No matter where you call home, the official AEW YouTube channel is always available to watch highlights from DYNAMITE, COLLISION, and RAMPAGE, as well as special presentations such as HEY!(EW), to get prepared for every event! Come Friday night All Elite Wrestling heads off to the Windy City for a special three hour night of RAMPAGE and COLLISION to set the table for ALL OUT 2024 on Saturday!
