The show opened with the message: “Black Lives Matter”
Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Jim Ross were the broadcast team for tonight’s event.
“We’ve got a lot of momentum right now from this Mike Tyson thing,” said Jim Ross.
“Yeah, it was crazy last week, wasn’t it?” replied Tony Schiavone.
Kicking off the program—AEW World Tag Team Champions Kenny Omega & “Hangman” Adam Page vs. challengers Jimmy Havoc & “SuperBad” Kip Sabian (accompanied by Penelope Ford)!
“Sabian and Jimmy Havoc—I thought were fabulous last week,” said Jim Ross.
“I feel like the idea of “Hangman” Adam Page and Kenny Omega not getting along is water under the bridge now,” added Schiavone.
“At least they’re having cocktails together. They’re communicating to some degree,” said Jim Ross.
“They are clocking in at 6-0 right now,” noted Excalibur.
Omega and Jimmy locked up, with Jimmy showing up Kenny with a series of elbow strikes. Jimmy rattled Kenny with a big running elbow strike!
Best Friends were watching from ringside; they will face the winners of this match at FYTER FEST!
Jimmy tagged in Kip and took Kenny down with an elbow. Kip and Jimmy had a fierce and fast pace. Just as quickly, Kenny turned the tables with a suplex on Jimmy!
#FTR were sitting to the rear of the arena, watching the match.
Page got the tag and charged in on Jimmy Havoc, taking him to the mat with a lariat. Page and Omega were playing Ping-Pong on Havoc with chops to the chest! Sabian tried to springboard in but the champs caught him and tossed him like a sack of dirty laundry. Penelope Ford jumped off the top rope and attempted a hurracarana on “Hangman,” but he caught her and deflected her to the mat!
AEW ref Rick Knox ejected Ford from the ringside area! While Knox had his back turned to the ring to deal with Penelope Ford, Jimmy Havoc blindsided Page and Omega and attacked them with a ring wrench! Havoc concealed the evidence and went for the pin, but “Hangman” just barely escaped.
Jimmy continued to work over “Hangman” and Kenny Omega was nowhere to be found after being assaulted himself. Sabian gave a series of aggressive stomps to Page and then booted him out of the ring. As Omega climbed back up the ring apron, Sabian dropkicked him right back out.
“This is great teamwork going on right here. You may not like what they’re doing, but they’re working quite well,” commented Schiavone.
“Isolation and a double-team,” added J.R.
“Hangman” Adam Page fired back and showed that great true grit he’s known for. He finally got the tag in to Kenny, and Kenny cleaned house with Polish hammers across the chests of Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc!
After a series of reversals, Kenny got Kip down with a hurracarana. Kenny sent Havoc across the ring with another hurracarana!
“Omega is cookin’ here,” said Jim Ross.
Omega used the backstabber on Sabian after neutralizing Havoc! It was good for a very near fall.
Omega used the Kotaro Crusher on Kip and Page followed up with a shooting star press. Sabian kicked out at two!
“Sabian shows amazing resilience to kick out of the tandem offense from the champs!” said Jim Ross.
“Hangman” hit Kip with a big fallaway slam, then went up and over the top rope and crashed down onto Havoc!
“These two teams are tearing it up, guys! This is a heck of a world tag team title match,” said Tony Schiavone.
Sabian telegraphed Omega’s offense and countered with a swinging DDT, planting him hard on the mat! Jimmy was tagged in and blasted Kenny with a jumping European uppercut, and then carried him and dumped him with a Death Valley Driver on top of Page, who had been sitting in the corner near the turnbuckles! Sabian got the tag and used a diving stomp onto Kenny. Havoc was seamlessly tagged back in and dropped Omega with a DDT. The pinning attempt was broken up by “Hangman” Page who was able to break the pin for Omega at the very last moment. Sabian hit Omega in the back of the head with a springboard dropkick! Sabian spiked Omega with a reversed hurracarana and tagged in Jimmy Havoc!
“Omega appears to be like a ragdoll right now,” noted Schiavone.
Omega escaped out of a Michinoku Driver and countered with a snapdragon suplex on Havoc! Omega connected with the V-trigger knee strike on Kip! Page was tagged in and used an assisted German suplex on Havoc and then powerbombed Kip Sabian! Kenny followed up with a knee to Kip’s spine.
“They are hitting them with everything, and these kids keep coming back,” noted Schiavone about Sabian and Havoc’s perseverance.
Finally, “Hangman” Adam Page used the Last Call (Buckshot/V-Trigger combo) on Havoc for the pin fall victory! So it’ll be Best Friends challenging Page & Omega for the AEW Tag Team Championship at FYTER FEST!
A video was shown from earlier today, with Tully Blanchard meeting Shawn Spears in the back of an SUV.
“Ok Shawn, I think the ‘Search for Spears’ is over with. I have the missing piece right here,” said Tully, clutching a case in his hands.
Tully opened the case and Spears pulled out a fingerless black leather glove and tried it on, smiling.
“The Machine” Brian Cage (accompanied by Taz) vs. Shawn Dean was next!
“The assault has started early,” Jim Ross said, as Cage jumped over the top rope and repeatedly rammed his shoulders into Dean’s midsection! Cage trapped his opponent’s arms and gave him a belly-to-belly released suplex as Taz laughed on the ring apron!
“When you’re talking about suplex, Taz loves it,” said Schiavone.
“He has so much power, he’s like a heavyweight boxer. How many shots can you take before something breaks,” said Jim Ross about Brian Cage.
Cage had Dean up for the power bomb and chucked him right into the turnbuckles! Cage ended the match with the Drill Claw for another decisive victory!
Taz grabbed the microphone: “Mox, you had the audacity to snicker and giggle at me when I was speaking to you like a gentleman about The Machine and how he is going to kick the S—t out of you. This is not a game. This is serious. You need to get your head in the game, or your head is going to get taken off at FYTER FEST, besides your title! That is Brian Cage, he is The Machine—beat him if you can, survive if he lets you!”
The AEW World Champ, Jon Moxley’s music hit, and out came Mox, holding Big Platinum!
“Jon Moxley is not one to take a challenge lying down,” noted Excalibur.
“This is fun! Well Taz, the reason I was smiling last week, the reason I’m smiling right now, because the thought of stepping in the ring with Brian Cage with that level of intensity, with that level of aggression, and going to absolute war? Well that makes me happy. That’s why I’m in this business,” said champ Jon Moxley.
“But be very, very clear. Step into the ring with my title on the line is the farthest thing from a game. Brian Cage—you are The Machine. I am only human. I can be beat…but dude, it would take you all night long. Taking the AEW Championship away from me is a different prospect entirely and you’re gonna find that out at FYTER FEST when you’re in over your head and you realize you are swimming with a different breed of shark!”
Alex Marvez was on location at a construction site and found “The MurderHawk Monster” Lance Archer assaulting a wrestler.
“You think one loss means anything to me? It means nothing! After twenty years in this business, there’s not one person in AEW that’s going to stop me! I’m not here to be a damn spot monkey. I’m here to be a monster. I’m gonna show you pain and torture like you’ve never experienced before. And when I say everybody dies, I mean everybody dies!” said Archer.
Jake “The Snake” Roberts apologized to Alex Marvez.
Earlier in the day, Private Party caught up with “Broken” Matt Hardy at the bar.
“How’s your knee doing?” Hardy asked.
“The knee’s pretty good,” replied Marq Quen.
“I enjoyed our match last week, and you guys are the future of tag team wrestling here in AEW. The bond you two share, it reminds me of the bond and relationship I share with my brother. A lot of people gave advice when we were starting, so if I can ever help out, hit me up,” said Hardy.
Isiah Kassidy had an idea: “Hear me out. Matt…Private Party—“Hardy Party!”
“I like it, it’s got a ring to it,” acknowledged Matt Hardy.
Hardy left and walked by Sammy Guevara in the hallway. Sammy was on his mobility scooter, still injured from the “Stadium Stampede Match” at DOUBLE OR NOTHING.
“Sammy, we’re cool, man. Respect,” said Hardy, as he bowed to Sammy G.
It was announced that FYTER FEST will be broadcast over two nights—Night 1 is Wednesday, July 1st, and Night 2 is Wednesday, July 8th! It’s a two-week event where every championship will be on the line! Live and Free on TNT!
“Boom Boom” Colt Cabana vs. Le Champion Chris Jericho (accompanied by Jake Hager and Sammy G. of The Inner Circle) was our next match!
Jericho had blamed Cabana for getting in his way last week and preventing him from knocking out “Iron” Mike Tyson.
QT Marshall was watching from ringside, once again flirting with The Bunny.
Cabana struck first with a couple of hard shots to Jericho. Le Champion raked Colt’s eyes. Jericho changed levels and was showing off his boxing skills on Cabana, using him like a heavy bag in the corner.
Colt chopped back and tossed Jericho out of the ring.
“Cabana astutely identified the opportunity presented to him here tonight,” noted Excalibur.
Colt went up high and connected with an asai moonsault on Jericho and Hager on the outside of the ring! Cabana’s mouth was busted open in the process.
“Right now, Cabana is dominating Jericho in a big way here,” said Jim Ross.
While the ref was distracted with Jericho, Hager interfered and smashed Cabana’s head on the top turnbuckle, sending him crashing onto the arena floor.
Colt rallied back against Jericho. Le Champion tried for a running bulldog, but Colt outsmarted him and pushed him into the turnbuckles! Cabana followed up with a big clothesline on Jericho!
“Colt Cabana in the driver’s seat,” said Excalibur.
Colt jabbed at Jericho and then connected with the big bionic elbow! Cabana built up a head of steam and squashed Jericho in the corner with the Flying Apple! Cabana jumped from the second turnbuckle, splashing Jericho for a two-count, nearly pinning Jericho!
“How close was that?!” exclaimed Tony Schiavone.
Jericho fought back now, missing the Lionsault on Cabana, but Jericho lured Cabana in with the Lion Tamer. Colt made it to the ropes and Jericho was forced to release the hold.
“A week ago, we saw The Dark Order take interest in Colt Cabana. Obviously, you can see why,” said Schiavone.
Colt clothesline Jericho in the corner and sent him crashing from the top turnbuckle with an avalanche Frankensteiner! Jericho barely kicked out before three! Colt tried to run up to the top turnbuckle but as he turned, he was blasted with Jericho’s Judas Effect elbow! Jericho took the match by pin fall!
“You just saw what happened to Colt Cabana. It’s the same thing that’s going to happen to ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, that piece of s—t!” said Chris Jericho.
“Tyson versus Jericho, it’s the fight that everyone wants to see. I know I’m ready. I want to taste the blood of Mike Tyson when I shove his head straight up his stupid a—! And that’s why I want him right here, right now. Le Champion is waiting for you, man! I want ‘the Baddest Man on the Planet’ to come out here right now! Where are ya?”
“Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy’s music hit!
“Chris Jericho just got his wish,” laughed Excalibur.
Orange took Jericho’s hands and placed them in Jericho’s pockets, and then Orange put his hands in his own pockets. Hager and Jericho both charged at Orange but missed, and then Orange rolled to the outside of the ring. Best Friends—Chuck Taylor and Trent, picked Orange up over the rail, while Santana and Ortiz joined the rest of The Inner Circle in the ring.
“Here come the troops now,” said Tony Schiavone.
“Something tells me this is not over between Le Champion and ‘Freshly Squeezed’” replied Excalibur.
A tremendous training video aired of Dr.Britt Baker’s road to recovery!
Up next! Big Swole vs. “The Native Beast” Nyla Rose!
Baker was watching from ringside in her “Role’s Royce” wheelchair.
Swole transitioned into a side headlock as the bell rang. Nyla hoisted Swole up but Swole took down Nyla, avoiding the pinning predicament. Swole rolled up Nyla for a near fall. Swole charged at Nyla for a shoulder block but Nyla didn’t budge. Swole followed up with an abdominal stretch on Nyla Rose, but Nyla fought free with an elbow. Nyla got the better of an exchange and hip tossed Big Swole!
Nyla lured Swole to the outside and rammed Swole’s spine into the ring apron. Nyla dropped Big Swole with a brutal back breaker!
Nyla was staggered from a big headbutt by Big Swole! Swole followed up with a running elbow. Swole connected with a cutter on Nyla, but Nyla managed to kick out before three! Swole dropped Nyla with a big pump kick, but again Nyla kicked out at two!
Swole took down Nyla with a chop block and then a big kick to the back of Nyla’s head. “The Native Beast” speared Swole! Nyla was looking for the Beast Bomb but Swole rolled up Nyla for a two-count! Nyla countered Swole’s Dirty Dancing with a spinebuster powerbomb combo for the pin fall victory!
“You cannot count Nyla Rose out of this AEW Women’s World Title picture,” said Excalibur.
Tony Schiavone interviewed Big Swole at ringside.
Dr. Britt Baker tried to ram Swole at ringside with her “Role’s Royce!” Big Swole threw a metal chair as Baker retreated to the back!
Earlier in the day, Tony Schiavone interviewed Darby Allin:
“The doctor will not let you get in the ring this week,” said Tony.
“Life’s one big joke, however, Brian Cage, I’ll get the last laugh,” replied Darby.
Tony Schiavone had his sit-down interview with #FTR, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler!
“What does FTR stand for?” asked Tony.
“It’s a way of life for me and Cash. Now we’re here in AEW. The pinnacle of the wrestling revolution.”
“AEW has the world’s greatest tag teams,” said Tony.
“Now,” agreed Dax and Cash.
#FTR mentioned many of the great AEW tag teams, but they did not say the name of The Young Bucks.
“The dream match everybody has been waiting for. It’s not a dream match to Cash and myself. We’ve had to sit back and listen to Dave Meltzer sing their praises and say they’re the next Midnight Express. Tony, do you think that makes us happy?” asked Dax.
“I want to punch them in the mouth,” said Cash.
“Tony, when we beat them, I’d like for you and all your commentary friends to come to us and apologize and say, ‘You guys are the best,’” added Dax.
As the interview concluded, The Butcher and The Blade stormed the set!
The two teams were separated by security.
“What we did last week was business. It wasn’t personal. If you guys want to settle this, we’ll settle it like businessmen—where we do all our business—in the ring,” said Cash as he tossed his water bottle at them.
“We’ll see you next week!” said Cash.
Backstage Alex Marvez interviewed Colt Cabana about his loss to Chris Jericho.
Mr. Brodie Lee interrupted the interview.
“It’s what you do after a loss. Colt, I can help you with that,” said Brodie Lee as he walked off.
It was time for tonight’s main event!
Jungle Boy vs. the TNT Champion— “The American Nightmare” Cody (accompanied by coach Arn Anderson)!
This was the first title defense for the TNT Champ!
Cody and Jungle Boy started with mat wrestling, with Cody having the edge. Cody took down Jungle Boy with a big shoulder tackle, but Jungle Boy followed that up with hurracarana on Cody! Jungle Boy cradled Cody who kicked out at two!
“It’s hard to prepare for a guy as quick as Jungle Boy,” noted Jim Ross.
Cody and Jungle Boy exchanged chops and forearms in the corner. Cody caught Jungle Boy midair with a power slam for a near fall! Cody applied the figure four submission on Jungle Boy, but Cody had to break the hold when Jungle Boy reached the ropes.
Jungle Boy jumped from the outside and nailed Cody with a DDT for a near fall. Cody rolled out of the ring to collect his thoughts, but Jungle Boy quickly followed with a tope suicida! Jungle Boy attempted a second tope suicida, but Cody caught him and tossed him over the guardrail onto the concrete!
“Cody has built some momentum here,” said Jim Ross.
Cody connected with a headbutt on Jungle Boy. He tried again but Jungle Boy moved, and Cody’s skull smashed into the wall, busting The American Nightmare wide open!
MJF and Jungle Boy began jaw-jacking at the ringside area. Jungle Boy went back and grabbed Cody and pushed him back into the ring. Jungle Boy began hammering at the head of Cody. Jungle Boy hit a John Woo-style dropkick and then an inside cradle for a near fall on Cody!
Cody rocked Jungle Boy with a bicycle kick! Jungle Boy fought back with a wicked lariat on Cody. Jungle Boy trapped Cody’s arms and began the ground and pound attack! Jungle Boy went to the top rope, but Cody stopped him with a dropkick. Cody suplexed Jungle Boy down from the turnbuckles for a two-count!
“A lot of heart in Jungle Boy. Amazing!” said Tony Schiavone.
Cody removed his weight belt. He attempted the figure four, but Jungle Boy pushed him away with his foot. They battled on the top turnbuckle and they came crashing through a table off the top after trading shots!
Cody executed a spine-tingling CrossRhodes on Jungle Boy and won the match!
“What a hell of a fight,” noted Tony Schiavone.
“What a first defense for the TNT Champion Cody,” added Excalibur.
