ONE-ON-ONE...
Ricochet vs. Top Flight's Dante Martin
Dante Martin comes into tonight's RAMPAGE after suffering a heartbreaking loss to The Outrunners in the FULL GEAR 2024 4-Way Contenders Series, but the part that makes it increasingly tough to handle is that an inability for Top Flight to stay on the same page played a part in their defeat. It's not just Action Andretti who's at odds with the Martin brothers, but clearly Dante and Darius aren't seeing eye-to-eye either at this moment. It happens with family, especially with brothers who spend as much time with each other as these two, but when it starts affecting their matches, well then something's got to be done.
Perhaps that's why tonight, for the first time since the June 15th COLLISION, Dante is flying solo rather than engaging in any tag team or trios competition. It's not new territory for Dante, after all while his brother was injured he spent a great deal of time competing in singles matches and actually stands neck and neck with current TNT Champion Jack Perry in terms of singles victories (45), with wins over Max Caster, Lee Moriarty, AR Fox, and Bryan Keith to name a few. He's also gone to battle with fighters like Malakai Black, Jay White, Adam Copeland, Jon Moxley, and Orange Cassidy over the course of his AEW career, and while those didn't yield victories, Dante certainly learned a great deal from those matches.
Now he has to take everything he learned from those battles and put it into play tonight on RAMPAGE when goes head-to-head with Ricochet! Wednesday night we all witnessed Ricochet come at AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita without hesitation, and actually send the champion scurrying off after his questionable victory over Adam Cole. So with that need to fight Takeshita as his driving force, Ricochet heads into this battle with the ultra-athletic Dante Martin ready to go. Will the tensions within the Top Flight camp keep Dante from focusing on the task at hand, or will he gets his head right and find the means to defeat Ricochet?
THE ACE IN ACTION...
Hikaru Shida vs. Leila Grey
Last week on RAMPAGE 3-Time AEW Women's World Champion Hikaru Shida returned to the fold after a two month absence to score a victory over Viva Van. She's won four of her last five bouts, including a TBS Title #1 Contender Match over Thunder Rosa, Queen Aminata, and Serena Deeb, and very nearly dethroned Mercedes Moné as TBS Champion at ALL OUT 2024. Not only is Shida a 3-Time champion, she also holds the most singles victories in the Women's Division with 80 to her credit, and she's in a perpetual back-and-forth with Nyla Rose for the most overall victories as well (Rose currently holds that lead).
Suffice it to say, Leila Grey has her hands full tonight as she looks to rebound from the loss to Queen Aminata two weeks ago on RAMPAGE. If she can figure out a way to overcome Shida's offensive onslaught, Leila Grey's profile in the Women's Division will undoubtedly skyrocket but she's going to have to fight like she never has before to get there!
CONGLOMERATION VS. PREMIER ATHLETES...
Mark Briscoe vs. Ariya Daivari (w/ “Smart” Mark Sterling)
Mark Briscoe and Ariya Daivari are no strangers to one another; from their first trios meeting during REVOLUTION 2023: ZERO HOUR through their HONOR CLUB #7 clash last year to battles between The Conglomeration and Premier Athletes over the last few months, the former ROH World Champion has had his fill of Daivari, “Smart” Mark Sterling, and everyone associated with them. It doesn't matter that Mark has been the victorious party in all four of their trios bouts, as well as their lone singles battle in ROH, the members of Sterling's Premier Athletes just don't quit. Their persistence would be an admirable trait if they weren't such smug, dislikable individuals being led around by an ambulance chaser with questionable credentials.
After everything he's gone through with The Learning Tree over the past few months, losing the ROH World Championship but getting some vengeance through the trios Fight Without Honor victory, tonight may just be the kind of night Mark Briscoe needs and the kind of whooping Ariya Daivari should avoid at all costs!
SINGLES MATCH...
The Conglomeration's Rocky Romero vs. Komander
Tonight on RAMPAGE, for the first-time ever, The Conglomeration's Rocky Romero will go head-to-head with Komander! It's been a big month for Romero as he returned to Japan for the first time since February to compete in NJPW's SUPER JUNIOR TAG LEAGUE 2024 tour, teaming with Yoh as Roppongi ReVice and picking up a pair of victories to earn four points in the B Block, one over eventual finalists Catch 22 (TJP and Francisco Akira). Now he's back in AEW and jumping into the ring with one of the most impressive high-flyers competing today with Komander!
Coming off a loss to Lio Rush last week on RAMPAGE, but a victory over Josh Woods just last night during ROH ON HONOR CLUB #90, Komander is ready to go especially now that we know he's got a date with Shelton Benjamin this Saturday night on COLLISION! It would put Komander in a bad way to head into Albany and that fight with a loss on his brain, so he's going to throw caution to the wind to get this win over “Azucar”!
