AEW Rampage Preview for October 4, 2024

All Elite Wrestling celebrated five years of DYNAMITE with one of the most action-packed nights in the history of the show, as well as that huge announcement about the future of AEW! Ospreay and Ricochet kicked things off with a bang in their International Championship fight, but Konosuke Takeshita insured that no satisfaction was had by either man! We witnessed Hangman Page attacked by the returning “Switchblade” Jay White following Page's victory over Juice Robinson, Darby Allin laid out a WRESTLEDREAM 2024 Open Challenge, Katsuyori Shibata laid down one of his own to TNT Champion Jack Perry, and Private Party had one of their own for The Young Bucks! Plus Bryan Danielson and Kazuchika Okada engaged in another classic contest, but things seemed like they'd take a turn for the worse in the aftermath thanks to Jon Moxley and company...

That brings us to tonight's event where The Young Bucks and Jack Perry must face Private Party and Shibata in trios competition, while The Learning Tree's Big Bill and Bryan Keith face The Conglomeration's Orange Cassidy and Kyle O'Reilly in tag team action! Plus “The Brickhouse” Kamille will be in action as Queen Aminata and Harley Cameron clash in a rematch of the ROH ON HONOR CLUB #81 bout from September 12th!

RAMPAGE begins at 10pm ET/9pm CT on TNT, so prior to the show's beginning visit the official AEW YouTube channel to watch highlights from recent editions of DYNAMITE, COLLISION, and RAMPAGE, and so much more, then join us tomorrow on TNT at 8pm ET/7pm CT for COLLISION hailing from Toledo's Huntington Center featuring a 3-Way World Tag Title #1 Contender match, Darby Allin versus Johnny TV, and a tag pitting Premier Athletes against The Conglomeration!! Then we begin WRESTLEDREAM 2024 week with DYNAMITE: TITLE TUESDAY in Spokane, WA featuring AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson and AEW World Trios Champion Wheeler Yuta fighting the other two-thirds of that championship trio, Claudio Castagnoli and “The Bastard” PAC!

TRIOS ACTION...

The Elite (TNT Champion Jack Perry & AEW World Tag Champions The Young Bucks)

vs.

Katsuyori Shibata & Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen)

Five years ago, October 9, 2019 to be precise, All Elite Wrestling began a tournament to crown the first AEW World Tag Team Champions. The field was comprised of seven teams (Dark Order earned a bye into the Semifinals with an ALL OUT 2019 victory over Best Friends), but the most important match in that tournament for tonight's situation happened on that aforementioned date in Boston, MA when The Young Bucks where beaten by Private Party. Though it has been five years since that bout, and DYNAMITE has played host to so many wild matches and outcomes, it remains one of the biggest upsets in the history of All Elite Wrestling. Though Private Party would fall in the Semifinals, they'd earn their way into a championship Three-Way Match at the first FULL GEAR on November 9, 2019, and the combination of all that seemed to declare to the world that a new team had stepped up into the spotlight.

Unfortunately due to injuries and other situations, that promise Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen showed in the dawning days of AEW never quite seemed to realize its potential. They faced The Young Bucks in a traditional tag team rematch thirteen months later only to be defeated, and then just this past March in the AEW World Tag Title Tournament stemming from Darby Allin vacating the titles in the wake of Sting's retirement, The Young Bucks won out again. In and around those two rematches, Private Party has been through a great deal, suffered through injuries, fallen under the tutelage of individuals with questionable intent, but also been mentored by wrestlers who truly wanted to see them reach that potential glimpsed in 2019. Even Zay and Quen have lamented how they haven't reached the heights they dreamed of after that victory over Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, and how they've failed to claim the AEW World Tag Team Titles despite their five challenges against five different championship teams.

So maybe Jon Moxley wasn't wrong in delivering a wake-up call to Private Party, his methods may have been extremely and utterly out of line, but the message behind it wasn't inaccurate. It clearly lit a fire under Zay and Quen because they stepped up to fight PAC, Claudio, and Yuta for the World Trios Titles at COLLISON: GRAND SLAM 2024, they dispatched Iron Savages in just 65 seconds on Wednesday night, and did not hesitate to call The Young Bucks out immediately following the victory. Unsurprisingly, The Young Bucks did everything they could to avoid fighting that night, but Interim EVP Christopher Daniels made sure they'd be lacing up their boots tonight on RAMPAGE when their paths and that of fellow Elitist TNT Champion Jack Perry converge for a trios bout against Kassidy, Quen, and Katsuyori Shibata! It already seems “The Scapegoat” has his next challenger in the form of “The Wrestler”, but can Private Party earn their own title match with a victory here, or will it be another frustrating night of unrealized potential for these AEW originals?

TAG TEAM GRUDGE MATCH...

The Learning Tree (“Bad Apple” Bryan Keith & “The Redwood” Big Bill)

vs.

The Conglomeration (Kyle O'Reilly & “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy)

The battles between The Learning Tree and The Conglomeration continue tonight on the heels of Chris Jericho challenging Mark Briscoe to an ROH World Championship fight at WRESTLEDREAM 2024! Bolstered by the fact he pinned Mark in their Texas Tornado Trios match at COLLISION: GRAND SLAM 2024, and looking to the history when The Beast Mortos did the same to earn a title fight, the former ROH World Champion of course went to unnecessary lengths to rile up Mark when he brought up his late, beloved brother Jay, but that's par for the course when dealing with “The Learning Tree”. So while Mark prepares for that fight in eight days, his Conglomeration companions will go to battle with Jericho's branches tonight on RAMPAGE!

This marks the first time Bryan Keith and Big Bill have united for tag team competition, and just the second outing for Kyle O'Reilly and Orange Cassidy after their loss to Undisputed Kingdom back in July. Will we see The Conglomeration rebound from their Tornado Trios loss week, or will Jericho's branches parlay that momentum into another victory for The Learning Tree?

ONE-ON-ONE...

Queen Aminata vs. The Outcasts' Harley Cameron

During ROH ON HONOR CLUB #81 that aired on September 12th, Queen Aminata defeated The Outcasts' Harley Cameron in a hard-fought competition. Tonight during RAMPAGE, that bad blood spills over into AEW with this rematch between two of the most promising young athletes in the Women's Division! Over the last several months Harley Cameron has really stepped up her level of competition, showing great improvement with her in-ring skills, but we've also witnessed Queen Aminata's rapid improvement in her ROH competition as well as with the foes she's faced here in AEW. Two weeks ago she stepped up to “The Professor” Serena Deeb on COLLISION, and that's created a burgeoning rivalry of its own as we saw when Aminata came to the aid of Dr. Britt Baker after her victory over Deeb on Wednesday night.

By stepping up to the side of the Good Doctor, The Queen now finds herself fighting battles on many fronts, but she best focus on the task at hand with the maniacal Harley Cameron lest she end up a victim of this Outcast!
